Gambling addiction is a complex problem, often invisible and poorly understood—especially in community settings where adequate tools and training are lacking. Unlike other forms of addiction, it doesn't show clear physical signs and is worsened by a tendency toward denial among those affected. When this compulsive behavior is not identified and addressed in time, it leads to isolation, social exclusion, and a worsening of already vulnerable economic and emotional situations.
People struggling with or at risk of gambling addiction need educational and therapeutic support provided by specialized professionals and public or private organizations. However, youth educators and community workers—who are often motivated to intervene—do not always have the necessary methodologies or skills to create integrated and effective responses.
This project was shaped by this reality and by the jointly developed problem/solution tree, from which four main objectives were defined: Create a methodology for quality educational support that activates family and community engagement with individuals affected by gambling addiction, through professional training of the partners.
Develop non-directive intervention skills among professionals from medical, psychological, financial, and social fields, encouraging integrated community-level responses through peer education. Raise awareness among key local and national stakeholders about the urgency of preventive public policies and the adoption of a multidisciplinary and integrated approach to treating gambling addiction.
